The Bukhanka (“loaf”): the 1965–85 UAZ-452 forward-control four-wheel drive with the UMZ 2.45-litre four, a 2,300 mm wheelbase and a 3-speed gearbox with two-speed transfer case, as van, ambulance (“Tabletka”), pick-up (“Golovastik”) and minibus, for the Soviet Army, ambulance services, post and farms.

The record

The 452 replaced the 450 in 1965 with a new body, the UMZ-451 engine and a four-speed gearbox from 1970s; the 452A ambulance served every Soviet rural district, the 452D pick-up the farms and utilities, and the 452V minibus the state enterprises. Redesignated 2206/3741/3303/3962 in 1985, the design continues in production at Ulyanovsk — the oldest vehicle design still built.
