WC series (1940–45)

The wartime Dodge: the WC series half-ton and ¾-ton four-wheel drives of 1940–45 — weapons carriers, command reconnaissance cars, ambulances and the 6x6 WC-62/63 — with the 230 flathead six, built in hundreds of thousands for the US Army and Lend-Lease and the direct ancestor of the civilian Power Wagon.

The record

Dodge’s wartime trucks were the middleweight of the American army between the jeep and the 2½-ton six-wheelers: the VC and WC half-tons of 1940–41, the ¾-ton WC-51 and WC-52 weapons carriers, the WC-54 ambulance and the WC-56 command car. Their chassis, engine and gearbox went straight into the 1946 Power Wagon, the first civilian four-wheel-drive truck from a major maker.

Research status: draft — identification, dates or figures could not all be pinned down; the summary says what is unresolved.

AI rendering impression

An AI rendering impression starts from a 3D model of this vehicle, which an image model then paints into a scene. It is an artist's impression of the type, made to give a feel for the vehicle in its element — not a photograph, and not a record of any particular vehicle.

Proportions, fittings, markings, colours and the setting can all drift from the original in the process. For the vehicle's actual details, rely on the specification, the photographs and the cited sources on this page.
