History

Toyota do Brasil was founded in January 1958 to assemble the Land Cruiser from kits at São Paulo and moved in 1962 to its own plant at São Bernardo do Campo, fitting the Mercedes-Benz OM-324 diesel to meet Brazilian local-content rules; the Bandeirante took the 40 body in 1968 and was built, little changed, until November 2001, about 100,000 in all. The plant later built the Corolla; Toyota do Brasil now builds at Indaiatuba, Sorocaba and Porto Feliz.
