Chrysler developed the J8 from the Wrangler JK for military and government buyers who could not get the Humvee: the 2.8-litre diesel with a five-speed automatic, a stronger frame, a Dana 60 axle, air intake through a snorkel and a 3,500 lb payload, assembled by Arab American Vehicles in Egypt. The Egyptian Army, the Israeli Defense Forces (as the Storm 3), and forces in Africa and the Gulf bought it.
