The 60 Series spans the change from frame numbers to the 17-character VIN: Japanese and most export cars carry FJ60-, HJ60-, FJ62- or HJ61- and a serial; North American cars from 1981 carry a VIN beginning JT3FJ60 or JT3FJ62 that names the model, the year and the plant. [1][2][3][4]

Where to find it

Frame number on the right-hand frame rail and the plate on the firewall; the VIN plate on the dash at the base of the windscreen and the certification label on the driver’s door pillar.
