The Y60 is the Patrol most often compared with the Land Cruiser 80: coil springs, a strong naturally aspirated diesel and a reputation for durability that made it the vehicle of Australian outback stations, African aid fleets and Gulf desert driving. The badge-engineered Ford Maverick was Ford Australia’s stop-gap while it had no 4x4 of its own.
