The leaf-sprung modern Patrol: the 160 series of 1980 (MQ in Australia) and the 260 of 1985 (MK), with the SD33 diesel, the L28 and P40 petrol sixes and, from 1983, the turbo-diesel; sold as the Safari in Japan and the Patrol everywhere else, and the vehicle that made the name in Australia and the Gulf.

The record
The 160 was the first Patrol designed for export markets first: Australia, the Middle East, Africa and southern Europe took it as a working and expedition vehicle, and the wagon became a family car in the Gulf. The coil-sprung Y60 replaced it in 1987 — though leaf-sprung Patrols continued in some markets.
Catalogue fields describe the vehicle's structure and body as this registry records it. They are not certified factory measurements, and no performance figures are published here.

Just in front of the Kombi was this knackered Patrol. I only saw a few of this shape of Patrol over in Oz, and this was the only 3-door or SWB model I saw. CertRiley from Christchurch, New Zealand · CC BY 2.0 ↗
