The Wisconsin truck maker founded in 1917 by William Besserdich and Bernhard Mosling to build four-wheel-drive trucks (Old Betsy, the Model A of 1918); since the M911 of 1976 the US forces’ tactical-truck supplier, building the MTVR (11,359), the FMTV rebuy (over 40,500), the M-ATV (about 10,000, half at McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania) and the JLTV (over 20,000) at Oshkosh, and the Striker crash tenders through Pierce at Appleton.

History

The Wisconsin Duplex Auto Company became Oshkosh Motor Truck in 1918 and lived on snow and road trucks until the Army contracts of the 1970s and 1980s (M911, HEMTT); it bought Pierce (1996), McNeilus (1998) and JLG (2006), became Oshkosh Corporation in 2008 and won the M-ATV in 2009, the FMTV rebuy in 2009 and the JLTV in 2015. The 8x8 and 10x10 trucks and its commercial vehicles are outside the registry.
