History

Morris Motors was formed in 1919 to continue WRM Motors, which had assembled the Morris Oxford at Cowley from 1913; by 1926 it made 42 per cent of Britain's cars. The Nuffield Organization added Wolseley and MG in 1935 and Riley in 1938. In the war Morris built quad tractors, reconnaissance cars and trucks, and it is among the builders of the pre-war carriers; the 50 Cavalry Carriers were built by Nuffield. The Nuffield Organization merged with Austin in 1952 to form the British Motor Corporation.
