Peter Monteverdi’s Basel car maker, which rebodied the International Scout II as the luxury Safari (bodies by Fissore of Savigliano) and sold the Scout-bodied Sahara from 1976 to 1982, about 1,000 in all, before the Scout’s end cut its supply.

History

Monteverdi built grand tourers on Chrysler engines from 1967; the Safari of 1976 took the Scout II chassis and a Fissore body against the Range Rover and sold well in the Gulf. The company ended car production in 1984; its museum is at Binningen.
