Thar (2010–20)

The CJ made modern: the Thar of 4 October 2010, which replaced the Major with the 2.5-litre CRDe diesel, part-time four-wheel drive and a low range, in soft-top and hard-top forms — the last Indian vehicle still carrying the Willys shape.

The record

The first Thar was a working vehicle sold to farmers, the army and the off-road clubs that grew up around it; its American cousin the Roxor brought Fiat Chrysler’s trade-dress case in 2018.

AI rendering impression

An AI rendering impression starts from a 3D model of this vehicle, which an image model then paints into a scene. It is an artist's impression of the type, made to give a feel for the vehicle in its element — not a photograph, and not a record of any particular vehicle.

Proportions, fittings, markings, colours and the setting can all drift from the original in the process. For the vehicle's actual details, rely on the specification, the photographs and the cited sources on this page.
