The record

Mahindra & Mahindra assembled Willys CJs from kits from 1949 and took a licence for the CJ-3B in 1954, fitting the Hurricane four and later Peugeot and Mahindra diesels. The Indian Army, police forces and taxi operators ran it for decades; the MM 540 of 1985 and the Thar of 2010 were direct developments. Mahindra’s later Roxor of 2018 revived the body for the American off-road market and was sued by FCA over the Jeep grille.
