Scout II (1971–80)

The last International four-wheel drive: the Scout II of April 1971 to 21 October 1980 on a 100-inch wheelbase with the 196 four, 232 and 258 sixes, 304 and 345 V8s and from 1976 the Nissan SD33 diesel, Dana 44 axles and a wider body; 532,674 Scouts were built in all.

The record

The Scout II was longer and wider than the 800 with a new body, a full-width tailgate and the option of Dana 44 axles front and rear; the Rallye package, the Spirit of 76 and Patriot editions, the Midas conversions and the SSII stripped soft top followed, and the Nissan six-cylinder diesel of 1976 (turbocharged from 1979) made it the first diesel American SUV. International closed the Fort Wayne light line on 21 October 1980 after its 1979 strike and losses.
