The record
The Rugger was the workhorse of the Daihatsu range for eighteen years: the Fourtrak became the British farmer’s and horsebox-tower’s vehicle of the 1980s and 1990s, Bertone built the BMW-engined Freeclimber from it and Toyota sold it as the Blizzard LD20. Astra Daihatsu built the Indonesian Taft, Rocky and Hiline, some with locally developed five-door bodies, until 2007.
ENGINE2.8-litre DL diesel (DL-T turbo, DL-42 intercooled); 2.0 and 2.2-litre petrol fours
