The civilian Humvee: launched in 1992 after Arnold Schwarzenegger asked AM General to sell one, with the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels, the 5.7 petrol V8 and, in the 2006 H1 Alpha, the 6.6 Duramax; 130-inch wheelbase, 86.5 inches wide, portal axles, central tyre inflation and 16 inches of clearance; 11,818 built, the peak 1,432 in 1995, and 729 in the last year before production ended in June 2006 on the diesel emissions rules.

The record

AM General sold the civilian Hummer itself until 1999, when General Motors bought the brand name and the vehicle became the Hummer H1 (AM General still building it); the H1 Alpha of 2006 with the Duramax and an Allison gearbox was the last and the most sought after. The H1 is the only production vehicle with portal axles and CTIS sold to the American public.
