The armoured car of the FV600 family: designed in 1954, built from 1958 to 1972, 1,177 of them. 11.6 tonnes, 4.93 m long, up to 32 mm of armour, a Rolls-Royce B80 Mk 6A of 170 hp giving 15.5 hp per tonne, 72 km/h and 400 km. Three crew, a 76 mm L5A1 gun with 42 rounds and two .30 Browning machine guns.

The record

The Saladin gave a reconnaissance regiment a gun heavy enough to matter on six wheels that could carry it anywhere. It was still in service in 2024 with Honduras (48), Nigeria (20), Tunisia (20), Sri Lanka (15) and Mauritania (10) — more than sixty years after the first was built.
