The first Campagnola built at Kragujevac under the Fiat licence: 17 were delivered to the Yugoslav People's Army by the end of 1954, on the Fiat 1101's four-wheel-drive chassis with its 1,901 cc four.

AR stands for Automezzo da Ricognizione, reconnaissance vehicle, and the number is the year the model entered production — hence AR-51, AR-55, AR-59. The AR-51 was a short-lived first attempt: within a year the redesigned AR-55 replaced it and every Zastava Campagnola after that was based on the newer car.
