The record
It comes from the HMT family Supacat designed in the middle of 1999 — a High Mobility Transporter with air-adjustable suspension — for which UK Special Forces awarded a contract for 65 vehicles in 2001; the first HMT 400s were in Afghanistan in 2003–04. About 100 were ordered for the Army, 72 more in June 2008 and 140 Jackal 2As in June 2010, taking the total to 500, and 70 Jackal 3s were ordered in February 2023. The Jackal first went into action on 8 April 2008 on Operation Herrick with 16 Air Assault Brigade and the Royal Marines. Supacat designs at Honiton in Devon; the larger production runs are built by DML, part of Babcock Marine.
