Dodge trucks carry a serial number on a plate on the door pillar or cowl and stamped on the frame: a plant-and-sequence serial to 1965, a thirteen-character VIN from 1966 to 1980 whose first letter is the series (W = four-wheel drive, D = two-wheel), and the seventeen-digit VIN from 1981 under the Chrysler WMIs 1B7 and 3B7 (Dodge trucks), 1D7 and 3D7 (later Dodge), and 1C6 and 3C6 (Ram since 2010), with the model code carrying the W or a 4WD digit. Where to find it

The plate on the driver’s door pillar or hinge pillar (to 1967), on the dash at the base of the windscreen from 1968, and the serial stamped on the left frame rail; the military data plate on the dash or glovebox door of the WC, M37 and M880.
