The MRAP for Afghanistan: the M-ATV of 2009 with the 7.2-litre Caterpillar C7 (370 hp), the Allison 3500SP, TAK-4 independent suspension with 16 inches of travel and a Plasan armoured hull, 12.5 tonnes; Oshkosh won the contract on 30 June 2009, delivered the first 46 in July, the 1,000th in November and reached 1,000 a month in December, building 8,722 for the US forces and about 10,000 in all, half at Oshkosh and half at McConnellsburg.

The record
The MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle was the answer to the heavy MRAPs that could not manage Afghan roads; Oshkosh beat six rivals and built at a rate no other maker matched. The M1240 base, M1240A1 with the underbody kit, M1277 with the CROWS station and M1245 for SOCOM served the Army, Marines, Air Force and special operations; the UAE (about 850), Saudi Arabia (about 450 including extended-wheelbase versions), Croatia (162 donated in 2014), Uzbekistan (159), Poland (124 by 2024) and others took it, and about 7,000 stay in US service.
