The Humvee’s successor: the Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle, chosen as the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle on 25 August 2015 ($6.75 billion for up to 16,901), with the 6.6-litre Banks 866T V8 diesel (400 hp) from the GM Duramax, the Allison 2500SP, TAK-4i suspension and a 6.35-tonne kerb weight; full-rate production from June 2019, the 10,000th in February 2021 and over 20,000 by mid-2023; AM General won the JLTV A2 rebuy in February 2023 and the Army cancelled its further buys in April 2025.

The record

Oshkosh’s L-ATV beat AM General and Lockheed Martin in the JLTV competition after a 2012–15 engineering phase; the M1278 heavy guns carrier, M1279 utility, M1280 general purpose and M1281 close-combat weapons carrier went to the Army and Marines (Marine IOC August 2019). Lithuania (500, 2021–26), Belgium (322), Slovenia (129), Romania (129), North Macedonia, Montenegro, Brazil and Israel bought it; Oshkosh keeps the commercial rights after its A1 production ended in 2025.
