The Army’s 2.5-ton truck as built by Oshkosh: the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle of the FMTV family, a 4x4 with the 7.2-litre Caterpillar C7 (275 hp) and the Allison 3700 SP seven-speed, in the M1078 cargo, M1079 van and M1081 low-velocity-airdrop cargo versions; Oshkosh won the FMTV A1P2 rebuy in August 2009, delivered from 2010 and had built over 40,500 FMTV trucks and trailers by August 2021.

The record

Stewart & Stevenson designed the FMTV and built it from 1996 (Armor Holdings from 2006, BAE Systems from 2007); Oshkosh took the A1P2 rebuy in 2009 and built the family at Oshkosh from 2010, its 25,000th in November 2017, and won the FMTV A2 in February 2018 with a new engine, transmission and TAK-4 suspension. The LMTV is the light half of the family.
