The record
Marmon-Herrington of Indianapolis converted Ford light trucks to all-wheel drive from 1936; Ford built its first factory four-wheel-drive F-100 and F-250 in 1959 with a divorced transfer case and a Dana front axle. The 1965 Twin-I-Beam remained two-wheel-drive only until the Twin-Traction Beam independent 4x4 front of 1980; the tenth generation of 1997 went fully independent. The F-150 4x4 has carried the Ranger and XLT trims, the Lariat, the FX4 off-road package (2002), the SVT Raptor (2010–14, 6.2 V8; 2017– 3.5 EcoBoost; 2023 Raptor R 5.2 supercharged V8) and the Tremor. The F-Series has been America’s best-selling vehicle since 1981.
