The record

The Explorer replaced the Bronco II in 1990 as a two- and four-door on the Ranger chassis and became the best-selling SUV in the United States through the 1990s; the 1995 second generation brought Control-Trac automatic four-wheel drive and the 5.0 V8, the 2002 third an independent rear suspension, the 2006 fourth the 4.6 V8. The Firestone tyre recall of 2000 involved the Explorer. The 2011 Explorer moved to a unibody crossover platform and is outside this registry.
