Tracteur Cournil JA1.

The first Tracteur Cournil, on Cournil’s own frame from 1960 and with the sloping-bonnet body from 1961. Its engine was the 2,088 cc Standard 23C diesel of the Ferguson TE20 tractor, 30 PS, known in France as the Hotchkiss engine because Hotchkiss built it under licence in Paris until 1958.

The record

The engine sat further back than in the Jeep for better weight distribution. Unusual Off-Road Locomotion gives 26 hp and a road speed of 50 km/h, against 25 km/h for the farm tractors of the time; the JA1 was registered as an agricultural tractor and could be driven without a car licence.
