The record
Bowler revealed the car on 28 July 2021 and gave it its public debut at the Iceland Hill Rally on 6–8 August 2021. The base is a Defender 90 with the 300 PS 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged petrol engine and eight-speed automatic, to which Bowler added a full FIA-standard roll cage, strengthened subframes and bracing, Fox dampers with 25 mm more ride height, reworked cooling, 6 mm aluminium-reinforced underbody protection, 18-inch Bowler wheels and column-mounted paddles.
The 2022 Bowler Defender Challenge had seven UK rounds and twelve entries, packages starting at £99,500. On 21 October 2022 it became the Defender Rally Series by Bowler for 2023, with nine events including seven championship rounds of gravel stage rallies, hill rallies and competition safaris in Scotland, England and Wales, packages from £108,334 plus VAT, and left-hand-drive cars offered for the first time.
