Amarok (2010–)

Volkswagen’s own one-tonne pick-up: the first generation (2H, 2010–) on a 3,090–3,095 mm wheelbase, built at General Pacheco in Argentina and, from mid-2012, at Hannover; and the second (NF, from 2022), built by Ford at Silverton, Pretoria, on 3,270 mm. Single and double cab, 4Motion in shiftable and permanent forms — the Australian V6 has a true low-range transfer case.

The record

830,000 first-generation Amaroks were sold worldwide between 2010 and 2022, and about 70 per cent of Argentine output is exported. The first generation used 2.0 TDI and BiTDI fours and, from 2016, a 3.0 V6 TDI of up to 200 kW; the second is built on Ford’s Ranger platform with 2.0 and 3.0 diesels and a 2.3 turbo petrol of 222 kW. Only the four-wheel-drive versions are in the registry.
