The third generation kept low-range gearing and a centre-differential lock inside a monocoque, which is why it is in the registry where most 2000s SUVs are not; the fourth carried on almost unchanged for fifteen years, latterly for the Gulf, Australia and Japan, and ended in March 2021 when Mitsubishi closed the Sakahogi plant.
