History

Denel was created in 1992 when Armscor's factories were split off so that Armscor could become the Defence Force's procurement agency, and it is the largest of the country's state-owned arms companies. The Bateleur multiple rocket launcher, developed after the end of the Border War from the Valkiri, pairs a Denel 40-tube launcher with a Truckmakers chassis. Denel has been in financial difficulty since 2015.
