A heavy half-track hauler built at Morris, New York: from 1916 a petrol machine with a central triangular rocker carrying two tear-drop runner blocks on axles, so the track followed the ground and full power went to both sides all the time — where its rivals lost drive when they turned. About 2,500 were made between 1916 and 1952.

The record
Holman Harry Linn, a Maine man, began with a six-wheel-drive idea and worked with Alvin Lombard around 1907 before going his own way with flexible tracks where Lombard kept rigid ones. Linns hauled freight on Canadian power schemes, and from about 1920 they pioneered snow ploughing. A 1920 machine is recorded with a 45 hp Continental Red Seal engine, six miles an hour and sixteen-ton loads. The CATRUK of 1938, a convertible truck-and-tractor, did not work out after the war, and the company ended in 1952.
