The second Protze, 1936–41: the Krupp M 304 petrol four of 60 hp in place of the 53 hp boxer, and the two rear axles set further apart for stability and traction. About 7,000 Protzes were built in all.

The L2H143 is the version most often photographed, in every body the Wehrmacht asked for: the Kfz 69 anti-tank tractor for the 3.7 cm Pak 36, the twelve-seat Kfz 70 personnel carrier, the Kfz 19 telephone truck, the Kfz 21 staff car, the Kfz 68 radio mast carrier, the Kfz 81 ammunition carrier for the 2 cm FlaK and the Kfz 83 searchlight generator carrier. Germany, Hungary, Latvia and Poland all operated them.
