The record
GKN Sankey developed it from the AT100 IS and AT104. The British Army ordered 47 in early 1983 and took delivery in early 1984, ordered 247 more with an option on 200 in late 1985 with the last arriving by early 1989, and added about 100 plus ambulances in 1990; over 1,200 Saxons had been built by 1995. Britain withdrew the last in 2012, keeping 147 in storage, but Ukraine, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Somalia, Mozambique, Congo and Djibouti were still running them in 2024. Later production passed to Alvis, Alvis Vickers and BAE Systems.
