About 6,400 were bought between 1955 and 1961 at some 15,000 DM apiece, before Unimog and Magirus took the role. A small number of 1.5-tonne versions were built on a chassis extended by 20 cm. Büssing built another 168 identical vehicles between 1962 and 1968 at the former Borgward works at Osterholz-Scharmbeck, for the Federal Border Guard. The last were decommissioned in 1975.
