M461 (1964–75)

The last and much the most numerous of the GAZ-69-derived AROs: the M461 of 1964–75, with a new 2,512 cc four of 70 hp, a 2,330 mm wheelbase and a 3,860 mm body, as a two-door convertible or a pick-up. 80,233 were built by 1975 and 46,549 of them exported.

The record

Export began in 1965, to China and Colombia, and the M461 became the vehicle most of the world met ARO through. It won the Forests Rally in Belgium in 1970 and the Sons of Beaches event in Oregon in 1973. About 3,000 are still on the road in Romania.
