The 9th Infantry Division’s High Technology Test Bed of 1980–85 experimented with motorised light infantry on fast attack vehicles built from M151A2s with roll cages and weapons mounts, before the Chenowth FAV and the Humvee; Army depots fitted roll-over protection structures to the M151 fleet in the same years.
